Narrative patterns in time travel fiction
|
This article illustrates some common narrative elements in time travel fiction, and suggests a terminology for analysis of such fiction. The concepts introduced are 'story knots', 'perspective fusion' and 'frustration of the will'. The idea of frustration of the will produces a paradox in many time travel narratives. I discuss that paradox and sketch a resolution based on what a character would have to know when frustration of the will occurs. |
