Current Projects

  • I'm working on an adaptation, or new rendering, of the ideas of the ancient Roman philosopher Seneca (as I read them). On my Stoic letters blog, I'm writing a post (in order) for each of his Epistulae morales ad Lucilium ('Letters to Lucilius about Ethics'), taking up one or two points from the letter each time.

  • I recently started collecting ideas and materials for a Phenomenology of the Unreal. In this journal, casual observation, careful analysis and wild speculation will hopefully add up to some interesting picture of what a phenomenology of unreality might look like. Perhaps I will, at some later time, put the various strands of thought together and forge them into a more systematic and comprehensively structured text. (But I haven't plans for that at the moment.)

  • I'm a member of Toastmasters International, in the Karlsruhe Toastmasters club. I have reached the Advanced Communicator Silver (ACS) and Competent Leader (CL) levels and am now working towards Advanced Communicator Gold (ACG) and Advanced Leader Bronze (ALB). I'm also currently serving as the president of my club.

  • Since fall 2009 I teach evening classes in philosophy at the Volkshochschule in my home town Ettlingen. The courses are introductory, and I focus on ethics and mostly use the early Platonic dialogues as text base.

  • Project Usus is an Open Source project that some of my colleagues at andrena and I have started. We implement Eclipse Plug-Ins to support common coding practices.
